Kyrgyzstan (Кыргызстан) is a nation defined by its natural beauty. Joyously unspoilt mountainscapes, stark craggy ridges and rolling jailoos (summer pastures) are brought to life by semi-nomadic, yurt-dwelling shepherds. Add to ...this a well-developed network of homestays and visa-free travel, and it's easy to see why Kyrgyzstan (officially the Kyrgyz Republic), is the gateway of choice for many travellers in Central Asia.
In 2018, the British Backpacker Society ranked Kyrgyzstan as the fifth best adventure travel destination on earth, stating that the country was an adventure travel secret that is "bound to get out soon".

Best time to visit

With its tough, continental climate, Kyrgyzstan is very much a seasonal destination.As can be expected in a country where the vast majority of attractions are rural and high altitude, the timing of your visit is crucial. Unless travelling to the country for purposes of business or winter ...skiing, most visitors tend to come between May and October.
For those whose interest is primarily in outdoor pursuits, the peak trekking season is a little shorter – between early June and mid- September.
The period from mid-July to late August is by far the busiest with overseas visitors, partly because of the climate and partly as a result of this being the main European summer holiday season.
From October to May, much rural accommodation closes down and the yurts that add such character to the Alpine vistas are stashed away.

Food and Culture

Traditional Kyrgyz food revolves around mutton and beef, as well as various dairy products. The preparation techniques and major ingredients have been strongly influenced by the nation's historically nomadic way of life. Non-Kyrgyz cuisines that are particularly ... common and popular in Kyrgyzstan include Uyghur, Dungan, Uzbek, and Russian cuisines.
Kyrgyzstan is the only former Soviet Central Asian republic to start out with two official languages, in this case Russian and Kyrgyz. Kyrgyzstan has a high literacy rate (99%), and a strong tradition of educating all citizens.
Kyrgyz women produce a wide range of textiles, mostly from felt made from the wool of local sheep. Kalpaks are the Kyrgyz national hat, also almost always made of felt. Colors and designs are chosen to symbolize Kyrgyz traditions and rural life.
